ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court bench on Tuesday dismissed an appeal seeking the postponement of by-polls in NA-123, but restrained the Election Commission from announcing the official results until a final decision in the case.
The by-election for Lahore's NA-123 are scheduled for today (Wednesday). A three-member bench of Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Tariq Parvez said the election would be held in line with the announced schedule, but the final result would be subject to the SC verdict in the case.
In NA-123 Lahore, the total number of contestants for NA-123 is 57, while the number of registered voters is 287,915 of which 161,102 are male and 126,813 female.
The total number of polling stations is 268 of which 133 are for men while the same number are for women. Two of the polling stations are both for men and women. The total number of polling booths are 641 of which 325 are for men and 316 for women. NA-123 consists of 15 Union Councils.
The polling started at eight in the morning and will continue till five in the evening.
The Punjab government has announced a holiday in all the three constituencies to ensure security and smooth running of the election process.
