I think Udoh, 23, duplicates Anthony Randolph and Brandan Wright (and he's older than both) and I'm not sure that he's a guy who'll be a significant contributor on a good team.
Detroit just took Monroe with the 7th pick, so we'll see how these two guys develop over the years.
Despite the initial let-down, there are a few reasons for optimism. Udoh showed solid defensive instincts and rebounding skills at Baylor. We could use more of both skills on this team ― although I worry those skills will be minimized to some degree against full-sized (and weight) competition, particularly if Nelson gives him time at center. He's supposedly a quick learner and high basketball IQ player
Now Udoh, who reportedly impressed in his workout with the Pistons, has gone from a big man believed by most to be a late first-round talent to a player who could be taken as high as Detroit’s seventh pick.
Sitting on opposite sides of the bracket this week, Michigan and Baylor can only meet on the final day, potentially in the championship game. Either way, though, Udoh will see senior forward DeShawn Sims and Manny Harris throughout the week in Orlando.
