America S Got Talent, Merica s Got Talent Of 2010 erhaps Piers Morgan has a neurological condition and just can't help hitting the buzzer that quickly. America's Got Talent returns to NBC tonight, and it's a reminder that American Idol isn't the only show with a British judge with a mean streak.
The season premiere saw the usual array of the talented, talentless, and the just plain head scratchingly odd, and we learned that Sharon Osbourne is still the soul of the show while newcomer Howie Mandel will do fine in taking over the relatable everyman role from outbound David Hasselhoff. The most surreal moment of the premiere so far? The voice coach with the beard jewelry who attempted to reinterpret Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah so soon after Lee DeWyze used the song to seal his victory on Idol. The audience loved him to the tune of a standing ovation, and surprisingly enough, he managed to get most of the way through his performance before Piers buzzed him out. It was also the most humorous moment of the night, as the contestant revealed he didn't know who Howie Mandel was.
The most disappointing moment? The seventy two year old tap dancer who was unanimously shown the door despite winning over the audience. The judges were right in that there's no way he could have expanded the one-note act into something that could win the competition, but it would have been fun seeing him stick around for another episode or two.
