David Cook Not On Idol Finale, Lee DeWyze wins Idol but David Cook was absent. David Cook, the winner of American Idol Season 7 was obviously not present during the Tribute to Simon Cowell presented by American Idol Winners. On his Twitter account David Cool congratulated Lee DeWyze and was sorry for not being able to join the American Idol winners. "Congrats to Lee Dewyze! So sorry I could be there to see all my fellow idols. I'm there in spirit!" says Cook on his tweet. Later he had to explain his "could" word and said it was his iPhone's predictive spelling that caused the typo error it should be "couldn't".
David Cook was performing at a charity event in Kansas City during the night. Cook said that this was a prior commitment and it was too late to cancel or reschedule when he heard about the plan sendoff byAmerican Idol winners for Simon Cowell a sendoff.
His last performance on American Idol was during the Rollin Stones week of American Idol Season 9.
