Mortal Kombat Rebirth, I have no idea what this is. Okay, that’s not precisely correct. I do know that it’s awesome. But what does it relate to?! I should explain. A live action short film appeared online yesterday from YouTube user MortalKombatRebirth. Those who are familiar with the video game fighting series “Mortal Kombat” will definitely recognize the characters. Jax (and it’s MICHAEL JAI WHITE!!!), Sonya, Baraka, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Reptile, Johnny Cage… not everyone, but a lot.
I guarantee that the tone of the short differs from anything you’ve ever seen out of the “Mortal Kombat” universe. There’s some “Saw” in here for sure, that gory, grainy feel, like you need to take a bath after watching it. It’s dead serious and pretty in-your-face with the gore. Also, it’s great. I have no idea if it’s pegged to a movie or a video game or if it’s just a standalone piece of awesome tape — we’ve reached out to Warner Bros. for comment — but I would guess that it is definitely not fan-produced.
