Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi says the star's character changed after he took to the bottle.
Lisa Niemi was by Swayze's side when he died last year due to pancreatic cancer.
Talking to London Times about her late husband of 34 years, Niemi said, “people or animals could have got hurt when he was like that. It’’s not good to be around anyone like that”.
She recalled that Swayze’’s alcoholism reached its height when he was appearing on the London West End stage in 2006.
She revealed things turned so bitter that she eventually left their home at the middle of the night because, if Swayze had been awake, “he”d shoot the tyres off the car”.
"I have a myriad of feelings. Some are extreme, some are a general malaise, sometimes it's like someone has poured gasoline on me and set me on fire," the Herald Sun quoted Niemi, as saying.
She added: "I just have to have faith that one day it will turn around.
"It's hard to imagine but I hope at some point. I hope I'm not one of those widows who never has another relationship. This thing has tested my faith and belief. I've learnt that life isn't fair."
