I actually took my kids to the qualifying day last year, using some free ticket coupons my friend clipped from the Long Beach Press-Telegram. And, since I am not a race fan, it was just enough racing for me.
We got to see the Indycars, get right up close to the track and hear them vroom past us (wear earplugs!), but we didn't have to sit there all day long.
All Thursday events are Free.
11 a.m. Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame Induction (Pine Ave. in front of
Convention Center)
6:30 pm Tecate Thursday Thunder on Pine Avenue including Miss Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pageant
Several world-class drivers expected to attend include: Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, 2009 Long Beach winner and Series champion Dario Franchitti, and Danica Patrick.
“I mean, to be quick all weekend … I think we had three-, four-tenths on everybody all weekend,” he said. “Never really showed it. We were always, `OK, I can get more out of it if I need to, but no one’s pushed me hard enough.’ We qualified on pole easily enough. Off the start, I was running second, just biding my time. I was so comfortable.
Drivers will get behind the wheel of identically prepared, race-ready Scion tCs in what has become the world's longest-running, most prestigious celebrity racing event. The pros will give the celebrities a 30-second head-start and it's expected the on-track action will be fierce.
I wanted to remind you about these free tickets to today’s events at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
This saves you $25 off the normal price for Friday admission and unreserved seats.
Thanks to Tamiya America, Inc.
