April 14, 2010 – FIFA and Sony Music Entertainment today announced that "Time for Africa," a collaboration between global superstar Shakira and critically acclaimed South African music group Freshlyground, has been chosen as the Official Anthem of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Shakira sang in the previous football world cup also to rock the opening ceremony. And this time, her song will be the WC anthem.
According to the reports, the anthem 'Time For Africa' is expected to be released to radio stations worldwide. And it will be available for download from April 26.
Akon is thrilled about the offer and is working hard on his music. He revealed that he was honoured to get hired to direct the music for a big event like forthcoming football world cup.
Shakeera song, Time for Africa, is expected to be released to radio stations from next week and will be available for download from 26 April. Shakyra and Freshlyground will perform the TimeforAfrica song at the pre-tournament soccer Kick-Off concert in Soweto on 10 June.
TimeforAfrica will be sung at the opening FootballWorldCup ceremony and at the final on 11 July. For the first time since 1966, there will be no official song to mark England's campaign in South Africa.Why England don't have an official World Cup song of their own?
"Time For Africa" will be among the songs featured on "Listen Up: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album?," which will be released by Sony Music Entertainment in the weeks preceding the event, which begins June 11, 2010.
Colombian pop star Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the track at the World Cup kick-off concert in Soweto on June 10, and at the tournament’s opening ceremony and before the July 11 final.
