The Pakistan Cricket Board handed out life bans to top players Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf following an inquiry into the team’s disastrous tour of Australia.
The PCB also banned Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved for one year, along with a fine of Rs two million, for breaking the team’s ‘code of conduct’ during the tour of Australia.
“Mohammed Yousuf and Younus Khan… attitude has a trickledown effect which is a bad influence for the whole team (and they) should not be part of (the) national team in any format,” the PCB said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The recommendations of the inquiry committee will go a long way in arresting the continuing decline in Pakistan cricket.”
The PCB said that implementation of the “landmark” recommendations would stop the scandal-tarnished national game from further embarrassment.
“Inzamam also feels that by imposing a one-year ban on former skipper Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul Hasan, Pakistan Cricket Board has set a bad precedent before the young players.
“This is not a good decision for Pakistan cricket. The board is not setting a good example before young cricketers,” Inzamam told reporters.
The recommendations of the committee will go a long way to arrest the continuing decline Pakistan cricket and improve the state of cricket in Pakistan,” the statement said.
